This can be incredibly frustrating to someone who has never come across this before as every bone in your body suggests to swing it further to the left to stop that ball diving across the fairway to the right.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>If you drive the ball 200 yards<\/li>\n<li>Have a path that is 4\u00b0 to the left (and a square to target clubface)<\/li>\n<li>That ball will curve 40 yards to the right<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\">2 C<\/span>lub-face is OPEN&#8230;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/peterfieldgolf.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/wl5shv9kvqdz-e1585672668528.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-33356\" src=\"https:\/\/peterfieldgolf.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/wl5shv9kvqdz-e1585672668528.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"278\" height=\"108\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterfieldgolf.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/wl5shv9kvqdz-e1585672668528.jpg 278w, https:\/\/peterfieldgolf.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/wl5shv9kvqdz-e1585672668528-150x58.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 278px) 100vw, 278px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So with the above now being slightly clearer it is not just your club path that does the destruction. YOUR CLUB-FACE IS A KEY PART!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So if you have a path that is traveling to the left you physically can\u2019t hit a draw (without the help of gear effect, see below for more) <b>but<\/b> if you manage your club-face correctly you are able to hit a beautiful small fade.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If however you manage your club-face poorly and leave it wide open to your path and the target you better be ready to watch the ball curve over your fairway and too the right and possibly in to trouble.<\/p>\n<p>What I mean by manage your club-face correctly is a path that travels left is fine, if we hit the ball with a minimally open face it will curve with a gentle shape. If we miss manage the face by leaving it open to our path and our target it\u2019s out of control and going right.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\">3 G<\/span>ear effect&#8230;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The least known detail in the ball curving to the right.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This is generally only seen in your woods and mostly in our drivers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Strike is king in golf, if we\u2019re hitting it off centre all sorts of shapes can appear, mostly ones we don\u2019t want!!<\/p>\n<p>Gear effect has a massive effect on curvature in our shots. If you are striking the ball out of the toe of the club this will promote and more draw biased shape with less slice. If we are hitting from the heel side this promotes more fade with less hook in our flight.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/peterfieldgolf.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gear-effect.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-33357\" src=\"https:\/\/peterfieldgolf.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gear-effect.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterfieldgolf.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gear-effect.jpg 512w, https:\/\/peterfieldgolf.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gear-effect-387x300.jpg 387w, https:\/\/peterfieldgolf.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gear-effect-430x333.jpg 430w, https:\/\/peterfieldgolf.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gear-effect-150x116.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is often that we have seen lessons swinging the club on a great path with an ideal face angle only to consistently strike the ball off centre promoting curvature in their flight. This is not to be overlooked it\u2019s the first thing we measure when you have a curvature problem, strike it well first then look at path and clubface control.<\/p>\n<p><b>Next time you\u2019re at the range<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re struggling with the aspects above here is how I would go about fixing it.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Look in to which of the above impact factors is causing the issue.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Change club path if you want to straighten out your slice.<\/li>\n<li>Look at changing your clubface angle at impact to hit a functional fade.<\/li>\n<li>Make your strike more central to limit gear effect curvature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Specifically work on this area only up the range, introduce exaggerated feel to change, a drill, change of technique. (Ask in store for our advice on changing&#8230;we\u2019ll be happy to help).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Don\u2019t just bash balls with your driver, think about using your practice time to make a change.
